The anonymous cop's view that anyone who challenges his authority will (and presumably should) be hurt is untenable, both legally and morally. Their authority is not absolute, and as we see on a daily basis worldwide, many “peace officers” are no more than lawless thugs in uniform, treating their badges as an official hunting license.
So police officers have a license to hurt people if they are questioned by the public?

No. But no harm can come from being polite, and no good can come by being belligerent.
