Banning trans fats

Now that the Food and Drug Administration has banned trans fats, it is appropriate to examine a Biblical principle on Christian liberty.

1 Timothy 4:1-5

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

No, it really isn't. In case you missed the memo in 1776 or anytime thereafter, our country is not ruled by biblical sayings, especially with its countless contradictions: pork and shellfish “unclean,” among other creatures, not to mention all menstruating women. When you get your own “good book” squared away, instead of cherry-picking texts to suit your personal taste, then you'll still have to pass the crazy superstitions into actual binding statutes. Until then, as Shakespeare said, it's all “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

You do realize I am arguing from Scripture for government respecting our choices and letting us consume what we want, right?

    Right?
