Random thoughts of the day

♣ – Last week was “International Sex Workers Day.” This is not something that should be celebrated, because “Sex work” is always exploitation of women. It is not “empowering” to let men use your body for money. It is degrading. It is a danger to public health, as well as the lives and safety of “sex workers.”

♣ – I am not sure why it is a “scandal” to find out that wearing a mask are not terribly effective at protecting the wearer from getting COVID-19. This is something I knew in May 2020. The point of wearing a mask is to protect those around you, in case you are an asymptomatic carrier of the virus.

♣ – As you see the rainbow everywhere this month, remember it is God’s promise to never again destroy the earth with a Great Flood. The rainbow is a symbol of God’s grace and mercy to repentant sinners.

♣ – Providing context is often very important in teaching The Bible, especially to an audience that may not understand many of the agricultural references that the people at the time would have understood very clearly. Context deepens and sometimes even corrects our understanding.

♣ – Joe Biden’s reckless and irresponsible spending has presented the Republican Party with the opportunity to re-embrace fiscal responsibility. Will they take advantage of it? Nope. Instead, they propose blowing out the budget even more by spending $928 billion on infrastructure. Once again, fiscal conservatives have been betrayed. The only way to fix this is with another “tea party” wave of primary challenges.

♣ – The city council member who represents my district was “elected” in 2019 despite not winning even one single vote in the 2019 general election. Elections should never be canceled, even when a candidate is unopposed. We should never silence the voices of the people, even if it saves a tiny amount of money. The elections budget is a drop in the bucket compared to what local government spends.
