I was in an ice cream shop recently and I asked about mask policy for vaccinated people. The response I got was they do not even bother because people get “angry” when asked about it. It saddens me that people make such a big deal out of such a small thing. The fact that people get angry at store clerks who are simply doing their jobs is even worse.
This ought to be obvious, but far too many people do not understand that store clerks do not set store policy. They certainly do not set government policy. That is why it is so silly to berate a store clerk over face mask mandates. They are just doing their job, usually for a low wage. If you have a problem with the mandate and your state or local government still requires masks, take it up with them. Support candidates who do not support mask mandates. If it is store policy, politely take it up with the owner or the corporate office, not the store clerk.
It is especially absurd when we are talking about an ice cream shop that does not even have indoor seating. You are in the building for maybe five or ten minutes at most. It is not a violation of your liberty and it is not a personal insult to ask you to wear a mask. Even if you disagree with the policy, move on. If you truly cannot abide the mandate, go somewhere else.
We have all dealt with this pandemic for a year and a half, and it is grating on everyone. Sadly, it has rapidly turned into a culture war that is even splitting churches apart, which is something that should never should have happened. We will never get everyone to agree on every pandemic mitigation policy, but we can be tolerant and compassionate. Above all else, we can be polite. Is that really too much to ask?
